Yellow Rose

Sony Pictures’ Yellow Rose is the first Filipina led film backed by a major studio. Starring Broadway icons, Grammy winner and two time Tony nominee Eva Noblezada and Tony Award winner and Grammy nominee Lea Salonga, Yellow Rose tells the heartfelt story of Rose, an undocumented Filipina teen from a small town in Texas. Rose has dreams of leaving her small town to pursue her dreams of country music, then her mom gets picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, leaving Rose with major decisions (stay in the only home she’s known or go) and life changes. This is a story of self discovery and growth. It is an important look into the life of an undocumented family and the realities many in the undocumented community live.

Written and directed by Diane Paragas, the film drew from her experience of her family escaping Martial Law in the Philippines and moving to Texas. Finding reprieve in music and art, Diane pursued film with the idea of sharing childhood memories with a twist to them. “My hope is that Yellow Rose puts a human face on the plight of Dreamers, while entertaining the audience with original Americana music that they might not have listened to before.”

Yellow Rose premieres Friday, October 9.
